Appointed Person Certification Options

CPCS Red Trained Operator Card: All CPCS Appointed Person candidates will initially be trained to Red Card.  If you successful pass the subsequent theory and practical tests you will be issued a Red Card which will be valid for 2 years.   See our CPCS Test Day page for information.  To learn more about CPCS click here.

CPCS Blue Cards and Renewals: Your CPCS Red card will be valid for 2 years after which you will need to apply for a CPCS Blue ‘Competent Operator’ Card which will last for 5 years.  For more information on CPCS, how these accreditation’s work and how to renew please see the CPCS section of our website.

Duration: 5 days (including 1 day for technical tests).

Maximum number of delegates: 3 (if more delegates are required it will affect the course duration, please contact us for details).

Appointed Person Course Overview:

This course will give you an understanding of the appointed person’s responsibilities and how to fulfil them.

It will also provide you with the ability to interpret and apply sections 1, 2, 3 and 4 of the BS 7121 Safe Use of Cranes guidelines.

If you already hold the CPCS Code A40 Slinger/Signaller, on completion of this course you will also achieve the CPCS Code A62 Crane Supervisor qualification.

Course Content:

  • Observe regulations and Codes of Practice.
  • Follow safe systems of work including method statements.
  • Take personal responsibility.
  • Describe different types of cranes and associated terminology.
  • Understand crane documentation.
  • Understand crane stability, duty charts and safety devices.
  • Appreciate tower cranes.
  • Observe British Standard 7121.
  • Recognise the role of appointed persons.
  • Plan a lift.

CPCS test day      NPORS test day

The CITB provide downloads of CPCS theory test questions which you can download and review in advance of your test. These can be found here. Look for ‘Category Specific Documents’ and ‘Theory Test Questions’ about half way down the screen.

Venue: CPCS courses can only be held at our accredited training centre.

Certification: Delegates successfully completing the course will receive a CPCS Red Trained Operator.

Course Requirement: You should have sufficient experience of cranes to meet the requirements specified in British Standard 7121 Safe Use of Cranes.   For CPCS courses you will need to have passed a health and safety touch screen test within the 2 years prior to taking this course.  You must also have a good understanding of spoken and written English.
