Crane Supervisor Certification Options
CPCS Red Trained Operator Card: All CPCS Crane Supervisor candidates will initially be trained to Red Card. If you successful pass the subsequent theory and practical tests you will be issued a Red Card which will be valid for 2 years. See our CPCS Test Day page for information. CPCS Blue Cards and Renewals: Your CPCS Red card will be valid for 2 years after which you will need to apply for a CPCS Blue ‘Competent Operator’ Card which will last for 5 years. NPORS Certification: NPORS is becoming a much more recognised certification. We were delighted to be awarded our NPORS accreditation last year.
Testing can be delivered at our accredited training centre or at your premises as a dedicated 1 day course for up to 4 delegates. For more information on NPORS Practical and Theory testing click here. To learn more about NPORS click here.
Duration: 4 days (including 1 day for technical tests).
Maximum number of delegates: 3 (if more delegates are required it will affect the course duration, please contact us for details).
Crane Supervisor Course Overview:
This course will enable you to undertake the duties of a crane supervisor as defined by the appointed person. You will learn how to comply with legislation,regulations, Codes of Practice and industrial requirements.
- Legislation, regulations and Codes of Practice relating to lifting duties
- Safe systems of work including method statements
- Taking personal responsibility
- Different types of cranes and associated terminology
- Understanding crane documentation
- Understanding crane stability, duty charts and safety devices
- Crane appreciation
- Observing British Standard 7121
- Understanding the role of crane supervisor
- Understanding the role of appointed person
- Preparing an area with exclusion zones.

The CITB provide downloads of CPCS theory test questions which you can download and review in advance of your test. These can be found here. Look for ‘Category Specific Documents’ and ‘Theory Test Questions’ about half way down the screen.
Venue: CPCS courses can only be held at our accredited training centre. NPORS Courses can be delivered at NTSS Ltd training centre or at your premises as a dedicated course if you have the required plant available for use for the course.
Certification: Delegates successfully completing the course will receive either a CPCS Red Trained Operator or NPORS card depending on the chosen course.
Course Requirement: This course is suitable for supervisors and managers with responsibility for supervising lifting operations. You should have sufficient experience of cranes to meet the requirements specified in British standard 7121 Safe Use of Cranes. For CPCS courses you will need to have passed a health and safety touch screen test within the 2 years prior to taking this course.
